William Creake found guilty on an indictment for the highway robbery of John Shepherd in the parish of Windlesham on 4th Aspril 1740: robbing him of a black gelding and a chestnut gelding (each valued at £5), the property of Richard Chester; and 2 leathern mails (valued at 40/-) and 20 leather bags (valued at 40/-), the property of the King.  After execution his body was hanged in chains there.
